Google's announced it will no longer censor search results in China, which could lead to the company pulling out of the country altogether.
It follows an alleged cyber attack on several large companies, including Google, last month.
The search giant's chief legal officer, David Drummond, posted a message on their official blog saying the change in operations comes after a "highly sophisticated and targeted attack...originating from China that resulted in the theft of intellectual property from Google."
He says the attack was focussed on the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists.
Google.cn was launched four years ago, but with censored results to meet the requirements of the Chinese government.
The US government is now demanding a response from China to the allegations, while human rights groups are praising Google's decision.
