ROYAL SHOCKED! EASTER CURTSY TO KATE MIDDLETON
A video of Kate Middleton curtsying to Queen Elizabeth II on Easter Sunday in 2019 has gained popularity on TikTok.
The clip is part of a larger trend of edited social media videos featuring curtsies from various female members of the royal family, including Meghan Markle, Princess Diana, and Princess Margaret.
Curtsying is a traditional form of reverence offered by female members of the royal family to the monarch, performed twice each day: upon meeting and leaving the king or queen.
Although it is not required for members of the public to curtsy to the monarch or other members of the royal family, some choose to do so voluntarily.
The Easter Sunday service, where the curtsy occurred, was held at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. Kate has attended every royal Easter Sunday service at St. George's Chapel since 2017 (with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID pandemic).
The video has garnered over 300,000 views and 35,000 likes, with many commenters praising Kate for her grace and style.

This recent trend of social media edits of royal curtsies comes after Meghan Markle's interview in which she spoke about the tradition.
The Duchess of Sussex expressed surprise at being asked to curtsy to Queen Elizabeth II during their first meeting, stating that she thought it was a "joke."
Her comments sparked debate about the role and relevance of these traditions in the modern era.
While the curtsy is still a regular part of royal protocol, it is not required for members of the public to perform it when they meet a member of the royal family.
Some people do choose to curtsy or bow as a sign of respect, but it is not mandatory.
