This video answers the question: What is subclinical psychopathy? When we talk about the term psychopathy, we're talking about a construct. It's not a mental disorder like antisocial personality order, but it is related to antisocial personality disorder. The term subclinical doesn't rise to a clinical level. Subclinical presentations of psychopathy would not warrant treatment, so a lot of times we talk about subclinical presentations, we're talking about research that's in the area of businesses and organizations, and not to advance mental health treatment. It's important remember with psychopathy that there are two major types: primary and secondary. With primary psychopathy, we see antisocial behavior, being selfish, manipulative, callous, calculating, having superficial charm, being deceitful, and being dominant in social situations. We also see a decreased ability to experience certain emotions like guilt, remorse, fear, and anxiety. One of the areas that we see here with these emotions is when somebody has a decreased experience of these emotions, they have stress immunity, and this can be helpful in business settings. When we look at secondary psychopathy, we see traits like being impulsive, antagonistic, non-conforming, and having high levels of anxiety, anger, and depression as well as being volatile and having high stress reactivity.
