This cover has been over two years in the making! I am very happy to FINALLY get it posted.
This unreleased cue was originally heard in season one episode "Score" (a.k.a. "Golden Triangle pt 1).
About the lead sound:
It's my understanding that Jan used a Maestro Echoplex for tape delay echoes in his signature guitar-like live performances and recordings prior to Miami Vice. Though I've never seen one listed in his "gear used on Miami Vice", I believe there are many instances where SOME type of delay was used (like in this cue). I'm using a great Echoplex emulation pedal here by Catalinabread called "Belle Epoch", preceded in the signal path by the standard MXR Flanger/Rockman X100 effects. Years ago, I found an excerpt from an old Keyboard Magazine section (month of issue unknown) where Jan shared a Memorymoog patch (below) that yields his signature oscillator sync lead sound. When you dial in the patch, connect the Moog 1120 pedal controller to sweep the frequency of OSC 2, and run the sound through the Flanger, X100, and delay, there are only a few tweaks needed on the Memorymoog (all of which I could NEVER remember/document) to get the sound you hear in this video!:
