Watch this video to learn how to install your vinyl swing patio door. Window City’s swing patio doors are one of the most innovative patio doors on the market. These swing doors feature the durability and energy efficiency of vinyl, with the high-end look of custom doors for an affordable style option.
Follow these simple steps that will help you when installing your new swing patio door: Measure the rough opening from the inside of the opening, make sure there is enough room on each side to the door for shimming. Measure the door prior to installing and check it over fully. If the door comes with the rounded radius or arch top transom, prepare the opening with additional anchoring supports. For higher moisture regions, place a blue thin water barrier on the sill extending up both the sides. Apply a triple bead of cock approximately 1-inch apart along the sub floor where the unit will be positioned. Use assistance, and centre the pre-hung unit into the rough opening, sill first and lift it in place. Be careful not to disturb the cocking on the sub floor before placing the unit in position. Shim tightly using 2 inch shims at the bottom of the unit first then install shims at correct locations behind each shims.
Place screws through the hinge side jams into the studs at each hinge locations. Screw in through the shims as well. Do the adjustments before screwing completely. Install shims until there is an even gap between the frame and the rough opening all around the door. Test the swing in operation of the door to make sure it works correctly. For sidelite units, fasten the jam first on the hinge side of the door, for double doors fasten the fixed side or passive side of the unit first. Test the operation of the door throughout the installation. Scar the shims with the razor knife and then snap them off flash with a frame face and then cock the ends. Additional frame anchoring is required on doors with sidelites, transoms and double doors. On double doors, place a shim above the centre of the head frame, re-drill and insert a screw through the frame and the shim into the header. Insulate any gap between the frame and rough opening with low expanding foam. Install the interior and the exterior trim around the frame unit. Cock all exterior edges all around the brick wall siding, being careful not to cover the drainage opening. Once the door is installed, remove all the stickers and clean the glass and check the door functions to make sure it is functioning properly.
