The Time DARTH VADER Visited PADMÉ’s Tomb and Heard HER DYING WORDS-Immediately following the events of Empire Strikes Back in 3 ABY, Darth Vader setoff across the galaxy in search of answers to the question, “who hid his son, Luke Skywalker, from him?” Vader's search for answers leads him to Naboo, where Darth Vader continues in in his hunt for answer in who hid the birth of his son from him. After encountering the former handmaiden to Padmé Amidala, Sabé, Darth Vader was able to find Padmé's tomb within Naboo's capital city of Theed. The Sith Lord then defeated a contingent of the Amidalans-the group of fighters sworn to avenge the deaths of Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker-and descended upon the tomb of his dead wife. With the help of the SP-4 ISC forensics droid, ZED-6-7, Darth Vader was able to secure the location of where Padmé died during the events of Revenge of the Sith. As the issue continued, Vader was not only able to witness the final moments of Padmé's life, but he was also able to hear the her final words. One of the most recognizable characters and villains in cinematic history is none other than the Dark lord of the Sith himself, Darth Vader. Darth Vader has enamored fans ever since his first appearance during the opening scenes of Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977, and Vader's a character that still captivates Star Wars fans today. After Darth Vader survived his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith, was created when Skywalker turned to the dark side of the Force, pledging his allegiance to the Sith Lord Darth Sidious at the end of the Republic Era. Vader would go onto to enforced the rule of the New Order as the Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine's Sith apprentice throughout most of the Imperial Era. Over the span of Imperial rule, Darth Vader sought and killed any Jedi he and the Inquisitorious discovered survived the Great Jedi Purge. Furthermore, as Darth Sidious' apprentice, Darth Vader acted as Darth Sidious' enforcer, ensuring the Sith maintained a vice-like grip of control on the galaxy. Darth Vader's prowess, skill, power, and knowledge in the force were unlike few of the Sith that came before him, as the Sith Lord was a vergence in the Force. His blood contained over twenty-thousand midi-chlorians, surpassing that of Grand Master Yoda and all other Jedi in the galaxy. Vader enforced the rule of the New Order as the Emperor's Sith apprentice throughout most of the Imperial Era. In the aftermath of the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, he discovered the existence of his son and was determined to turn Luke to the dark side. Luke sought to become a Jedi, like his father before him, and believed that Vader had the potential to turn back to the light side of the Force. Vader was defeated by Luke during the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, but the young Jedi refused to strike down his father in anger, causing the Emperor to torture Luke with Force lightning. The pain inflicted on his son awakened the part of Vader that was still Anakin, resulting in a redeemed Skywalker killing Sidious at the cost of his own life. Having destroyed the Sith and fulfilled his destiny as the Chosen One, Skywalker made peace with his son & became one with the Force. Vader's reign of terror on the Galaxy would have long lasting effects, even after his death, as his grandson, Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren, vowed to finish the work that Darth Vader had started a generation earlier— to succeed where Vader & his sentimentality had failed. Darth Vader was one of the characters that made me fall in love with Star Wars when I was a youngling, & he’s still a character that I enjoy seeing in new Star Wars stories. Additionally, Darth Vader is set to appear in the upcoming Disney+ Series, Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi. Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi is a live-action television series currently being developed by Lucasfilm. On December 10, 2020, it was announced that Hayden Christensen would be reprising his role as Darth Vader in the series. Deborah Chow has been tapped to direct the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which takes place eight years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith & before Star Wars: A New Hope. Obi-Wan Kenobi will see Darth Vader and his former Jedi Master. Obi-Wan Kenobi & Darth Vader will face-off once again in a highly anticipated duel.
