Hera is a tricky goddess to cover, because… on the one hand Zeus was such a bad husband — and such a bad person in general — that everything Hera ever did pales in comparison to Zeus’ atrocities. On he other hand though… one man’s atrocities don’t justify another woman’s, so we have to judge Hera by her actions, and… throwing your own baby down a cliff is kind of as bad as it gets. But, of course… Hera did more than just torment toddlers (don’t forget what she did to Herakles), she was also the one to almost usurp the throne from Zeus (which is a good thing in my book) and protector of women and children, so there is definitely a lot to unravel with Hera, Zeus’ wife and sister and, of course, the queen of the gods.

All mythologies are tough puzzles to piece together, because these stories are thousands of years old. There are many interpretations of every single greek myth, and even more contradictions among these interpretations. This is made particularly difficult by the ancient Greeks diligently writing down everything and interpreting with passion. Different people and different regions have different versions of each myth, so there is no exact general consensus on Greek Mythology. Some even think that Hera was one the supreme goddess, so... things vary greatly. For the sake of this video — and all my videos — I try to streamline these tales as much as possible and leave out some details that might make the videos less fun, while also picking and choosing whichever interpretations I see fit.
So... is this accurate and well researched? Absolutely, 100%. Is this the only interpretation or way of telling you about Hera? No, but subjectively speaking… it’s the way I liked it the most.
