The Russian Orthodox Church sits atop a hill overlooking the ancient city of Daugavpils, Latvia with its golden domes and ornate blue and white decorations.
Coined "The most Russian city in Latvia", Daugavpils has many tie-ins with Russia. From its long history as a direct route between Russia and Poland that saw Russian Tsars pass through its' gates, to today's large Russian population (one of the largest concentrations in the Baltic states, and widely considered the capital of Russian-speaking Latvia) its connections to and with Russia, both past and present, are undeniable.
