The cabinet has today resolved that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission should register voters electronically to avoid plunging the country into the kind of mess witnessed in the aftermath of the disputed December 2007 election. During a special meeting held at State House Nairobi and chaired by President Mwai Kibaki, the Cabinet advised IEBC to revert to the Biometric Voter Registration system that it had abandoned in favor of manual registration after the tender process hit a snug. And as Sylvia Chebet reports, the Commission will be presented with options that will take care of the time factor at a meeting that will bring together the two principals, the Attorney General, the Justice and Finance Ministers expected to take place on Monday.
