Unused / unissued material - no paperwork - dates unclear or unknown. 1935?
Saar, Germany.
Various shots of people walking around streets with suitcases. Sign hanging over the street. "Herzlich Willkommen in der Heimat" More shots of people with luggage. Shots of a railway train crossing a bridge. Streets covered in snow. CU poster "Ein Wort zur Aufklarung!" Several posters are talking about the Referendum on the Saar returning to German hands. More shots of Saar (possibly Saarbruken) with snow laying on the streets. Shots of unidentified man, possibly leader of one of the campaigns in the referendum. (Most of this is out of focus). More shots of people in snowy streets. A group of men jog on the spot to keep warm. Same street scenes without snow. Travel shots along streets. People going to vote. People voting. Men stand outside polling station. Red cross men are helping people to the polls. Soldiers and armoured cars are seen in the streets. More people with suitcases (are they leaving the region?)
N.B. The referendum vote for the Saar to return to German control was on Jan 13 1935, the result was announced on Jan 15. 90% of those voting wanted to return to German rule after being run by the League of Nations.
