When a Wind Storm blew my kids' playhouse across the yard, I figured we'd plant it into the ground. This got me thinking we could plant a fruit tree next to the play house. Before I plant a fruit tree of any kind, I want to think this through since whatever we plant will be long term. I'm thinking we may plant something deciduous like an Apple Tree, or a Nectarine. Specifically "Anna" Apple or Dorsett Golden, because they produce well in our climate, and don't have a vigorous growth habit. What do YOU think I should plant here?

I'm inclined to plant an apple tree as opposed to other fruit trees because this just feels like a classic choice. Because it won't be a fruit tree in a pot, I want to make sure I choose well. Like all of my fruit trees in backyard, and fruit tree garden next to the kids playhouse will need to produce well in our climate. That's what has me thinking of planting either an anna apple, or dorsett golden apple, as opposed to fuji, gala or other apple trees I have planted but haven't produced well. I LOVE the fall foliage of our nectarine trees, and may plant something similiar to the nectarines fruit trees we have in the orchard. I'm hoping this project will make the kids playhouse or fort feel extra special, and allow them to practice harvesting fruit, pruning a fruit tree, and caring for their own backyard orchard.
