“For some the coast is world’s end. For others, it’s the beginning.”
This statement by former submarine captain and former Prime Minister Piet de Jong typifies how we view the maritime world. For many an often still unknown world, for others a world full of opportunities and possibilities. If only you dare to look beyond the horizon. But that is difficult if you are not familiar with this often invisible world.
The Dutch have always looked beyond the horizon and seen and used the possibilities of the sea and water. Centuries ago we had the audacity to go out to sea and explore the world.
The maritime world will continue to play an important role in the future. The world population is growing and the land is becoming increasingly full and utilized. There are opportunities at sea for food and transport, energy, housing and recreation. And with this solutions for major social problems. We want to contribute to this and inspire new generations to look beyond the horizon.
