TAMPA, Fla. (Jan. 8, 2013) - University of South Florida criminology professor Kathleen M. Heide has written her fourth book, Understanding Parricide: When Sons and Daughters Kill Parents, based on her research and more than 25 years of experience evaluating defendants, primarily adolescents, charged with killing parents.
Professor Heide, a licensed mental health professional, emphasizes the need for professional evaluation to determine what led to the killing. Dr. Heide discusses the legal issues involved in prosecuting and defending parricide offenders. Dr. Heide illustrates in her case studies how understanding the motivational dynamics behind the killings is essential in determining appropriate treatment and in assessing future risk.
