Secret to McCoy Tyner Part 2 using side stepping and 4ths over Gm7
In this etude, we are combining 4ths, pentatonics and half step displacement (side stepping),
(3) of McCoys favorite devices. Of course, we are playing everything off the beat the way
McCoy would play it.
You CAN play them on the beat but it will have a completely different feel to it. We are using
minor pentatonics for the entire etude but there's a catch. This is known as forward motion.
EVERY-PHRASE-IS-DISPLACED-BY-A-HALF-STEP!
What we do here is modulate the minor pentatonic up a half step for every phrase.
We are playing Gm, Abm, Am, Bbm, Bm, Cm and back to Gm.
