About the heated water after lid exposed to heat:
- obviously don't reuse the water.
- make sure that the lid is exposed as little as possible to heat.
- wash the lid properly afterwards

why...?
Because, depending of the kind of plastic the lid is made of, it may release harmful chemicals after a certain amount of time exposed to heat. Read more on these, or other websites:
