The producers of the new documentary, "Call Miss Cleo," contacted CBS 12 News during their early development of the project, looking for archival footage from when the tv personality was dragged into court in the early 2000s.
It brought back memories of a bygone era when infomercials featuring tarot cards and telephone psychics standing by to take your call played late into the night.
Here in South Florida, people are still talking about when Palm Beach County State Attorney, Dave Aronberg, who was then an Assistant Attorney General, set out to expose the infamous 800 numbers as a fraud. The case captured national media attention.
Before "Miss Cleo," Detective Ricardo Tubbs from Miami Vice, actor Phillip Michael Thomas, was the face of the franchise and the CBS12 News I-Team found a guy who got involved with the Psychic Readers Network at the ground floor. He told us he was making things up out of thin air the whole time.
