Traditional Easter processions took place today (Sunday) through the alleyways of the Old City of Jerusalem and the West Bank town of Ramallah.
Christians marched along the cobbled stones leading to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre where they gathered to say Mass.
Today (Sunday) is Easter for Catholics and Protestants, the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead. It's also Palm Sunday for Orthodox churches that follow a different calendar.
The dual holiday attracted thousands to the 800 year-old Church of the Holy Sepulchre where according to tradition Jesus Christ was buried and resurrected.
The cavernous complex of chapels and shrines is shared by six faiths including the Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Armenian and Egyptian Coptic communities.
At the entrance the devout fell to their knees to kiss the Stone of Unction, where the body of Christ was believed to be covered with a shroud and anointed after being removed from the cross.
The afternoon Orthodox service for Palm Sunday was followed by a winding procession through the alleys surrounding the church. The path was cleared by guides (dragomans) thumping long silver canes on the stone floor.
The children in the West Bank town of Ramallah also celebrated with a parade through the streets.
