00:00 Introduction
Fair! Kumquat Liqueur was reviewed using the Bespoke Unit Liquor Formula, a quantifiable review matrix that you can use online or quickly refer to if you're in a hurry.
00:24 Rum Overview
Fair! is a 10-year old Anglo-French company that produces fair-trade certified beverages. It adds an interesting twist to the traditional bitter orange liqueur, which is often defined under "triple sec". Additionally, it's vegan as well as organic.
02:23 Robe & Appearance
It's crystal clear, it doesn't have any colour whatsoever. The alcohol and the sugar of course make for quite a bit of viscosity. It's clear, not hazy at all.
02:42 Nose
Fiar! Kumquat delivers a luscious, fresh, citrus blast of primarily orange upfront with a very dry bitter connotation and an ever so slightly ethereal, effervescent, green herbaceousness. There's quite a bit of lively lemon peel, lime, as well as Buddha's hand here. So a rather complex array of all these different citrus notes.
04:21 Palate
A lively combination of sweetness, mellowness, mouth-coating, full-bodied sensation right away, a little bit of citrus freshness that comes then. It's a very thick and rich orange marmalade with quite a bit of the bitterness of the orange zest, some grapefruit lemon and lime. Yet again, the whole kaleidoscope of citrus is there. FAIR indicates that they use less sugar than other triple secs and other bitter orange liqueurs. To me, that's noticeable on the palette, even though still there is no arguing around it.
06:00 Experience
I love these old school, old fashioned FAIR bottles because they're just tiny and swayed and I'm a short guy. So they perfectly fit my hand. I love to have them around the house and they are in my standard rotation as go-to liqueurs, but even the most recent bottle that FAIR came out with looks gorgeous, slim, minimalistic, elegant. The price of the Kumquat Liqueur is well above 20 euros. So it's, I would say a mid-priced orange liqueur and triple sec quality right there, but very versatile.
06:41 Cocktails & Pairings
Great neat, it can also be simply mixed with a tonic. Otherwise, it would be excellent as part of a White Lady, Sidecar, Champagne, or other modern interpretations of classic cocktails.
As for pairings, crêpes Suzette is an excellent choice. You could also try it with a Cuban cigar.
