Alexander Agethle is what they'd call a modern farmer in South Tyrol. He studied, and for a while it was unclear whether or not he would take over his family's Englhof Farm in Clusio/Schleis, a village in the Val Venosta/Vinschgau Valley. When he did finally become a farmer, he knew exactly the way things should go on his farm: today his animals eat good grass and the cheese he makes comes from organic agriculture. For him being a farmer means producing food, not supplying raw materials.

Then Alexander Agethle had an idea that he really liked a lot. He wanted to take over the old village cheese factory. It was right next to his farm. There was only one little thing he lacked: money.
Because he already had experience with alternative financing models, he suggested a special barter deal to his customers: credit notes for cheese. The plan functioned better than expected. In no time, he had formed an Englhorn community. Credit notes were purchased, hoarded and given away. And the best part: The new investors are not only buyers, but also want the project to succeed. They'd happily come together into the Upper Val Venosta for that.
