Easter is coming up and many of you asked for easter candy editions for what you can and can't do with braces! So here are my top tips! Avoid eating lollipops, they take too long to eat which means the sugar sits on your teeth for longer AND if you chew them accidentally it might break some braces off! Don't tell me "No one chews lollipops!"...because I get all the tea from my patients... that they accidentally bit down on a lollipop and I hear this VERY OFTEN! Peanuts and chocolate covered peanuts are too crunchy, certain types of freeze dried candy can also be too crunchy. From my last series, it seems like freeze dried taffy is pretty safe. It has the consistency of a more solid version of cotton candy but melts easily. Raw carrots are totally not safe for braces, but the chocolate versions are just make sure to brush well after! THIS LAST TIP IS REALLY GOOD! Solid easter bunnies are not safe for braces because the chocolate is just too thick, BUT there are many companies that make HOLLOW easter bunnies. Those are much safer and easier to bite through and shouldn't break your braces off! HAPPY EARLY EASTER TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE! -Dr. Britteny
