Getting laboratory samples and blood products from point A to point B is challenging whether in a rural area or dense urban setting due to geographic and infrastructure limitations. In this talk, Dr. Timothy Amukele discusses the possibilities and challenges of using drone transport as a resource to address these concerns. He discusses ongoing work at Johns Hopkins to develop and test drones, and considers what the future of drone laboratory specimen transport might look like.
After viewing this lecture, participants should be able to:
1. Describe the impact of distance on health care utilization, access, and cost
2. Describe an approach for evaluating the impact of new transport methods on sample viability
3. List what 3 challenges remain to achieving the promise of drones in healthcare
