My crystal controlled ultra low power AM transmitter build for testing and alignment of shortwave radios finally works. The #Colpitts oscillator with the buffer gave a very nice3 a stable 900mV peak-to-peak output. After fiddling around for a few evenings to build a good modulator, I got the tip from a fellow ham to use the old fashion way to just insert (mix) the amplified LF into the base of the buffer transistor. Turned out I was complete overthinking it. It worked.
After some adjustments it gives a stable nice 7mW output. The waveform isn't completely perfect but I'm going to work on that on a later time.
And what better audio for testing then using a podcast from Ham Radio Workbench where they have Bill Meara N2CQR from the SolderSmoke Podcast as a guest.
