This iconic photograph of a sailor Kissing A Nurse In New York's Times Square is a famous photograph taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt on August 14, 1945. It is an important piece of history as it portrayed the celebration of Americans on Victory over Japan and the end of world war 2.
But there's a story behind it. George Mendonsa, and his future wife Rita Petry, were excited to know that the war was over and they ran into the streets to celebrate. Drunk George.was still in the mood for
celebration and headed to Times Square. At Seventh Avenue, 44th Street, George spotted a young woman reading the news crawl declaring the end of the war. She was grabbed unawares by George's arms, and kissed her.
Later,George panicked and ran away leaving the woman confused and shocked.
But by then the photograph was taken And a week late it was published in Life magazine.
