Lombardo’s of Bay Ridge. I’ve only been this single time, but I tried a great calzone and an even better pizza there.

This cozy spot is helmed by owner-operator Emanuele “Manny” Lombardo, who opened it in 2018, decorating it with items and tchotchkes from his mother’s collection.

We tried the “Brooklyn Style Pizza,” which is made with regular low-moisture mozzarella rather than the fresh mozz of the “Traditional Margherita.” Really great pie.

The calzone drew ooh’s and ah’s from our table, and it was pretty great as far as calzones go—though for transparency’s sake I’ll tell you I am not the biggest fan of calzones. The Lombardo’s rendition is reminiscent of that at Lucali in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.

As I noted in my early video about the Brooklyn Firefly, I used to live in Bay Ridge. It’s the first neighborhood I settled in when landing in NYC back in the Year 2000.* If Lombardo’s would have been there back then, I would have made it a regular stop.
