Even though we should avoid public places as much as we can, if you choose to go to the gym, taking these precautions is necessary to minimize the risk of exposure. Sanitisation and social distancing are one of the major factors responsible in our safety, and we need to follow these fundamental rules, even when at the gym!
So let’s begin! Here are the top 5 ways you can protect yourself at the gym!
Number 1, go at an off hour.
If you decide to go to the gym after all, make sure to go at an off-hour, or when there are less people around so that you could avoid huge crowds. These timings usually involve early, morning, late morning, and later in the evening. Not only would going around these times insure less crowd and exposure, but also provide you a peace of mind by being among the first customers at the gym, after your facility sanitizes the place properly before opening.
Number 2. Avoid the areas cleaned the least.
Many people think that the cardio section is where there Is the least cleanliness. However, the areas that often get missed are the gym racks. A lot of people at the gym use those weights and thereby, there is less cleaning involved due to the high volume of usage.
Even though the gym staff use disinfectants on all the equipment, it is best to stay on the safer side and take your own precautions as well. Make sure to wipe all the equipment with disinfectant wipes, before and after you use. Most of the times, you can find these wipes at the gym itself, however, if they run out of it, you should carry your own disinfected wipes before going to the gym!
Number 3, don’t touch your face.
From every instance between you entering the gym and finishing your workout, there can be many opportunities for you to touch germs. Even if you wipe down all the equipment you use, you’re still bound to contact any germ-infected area. So, it is in your best interest to avoid touching your face to be on the safer side. However, if you choose to touch your face in between workouts, then make sure to sanitize your hands before, to avoid the risk of exposure.
Number 4, avoid using the showers at the gym!
If you’re considering taking a shower at the gym, then you’ll might have to re-consider your decision, since the shower area is one of the most prone areas for getting into contact with germs. Since you want to limit your time at the gym, make sure to restrict your involvement with the gym equipment and areas as much as you can. If for some reason you choose to shower at the gym, then . Also, make sure to cover your feet at all instances, especially in the locker room, to get minimum exposure to any bacteria.
Number 5, bring your own mats and towels.
Since you want to avoid high-touched equipment and areas, bringing your own mats and towels is the safest bet. Even though the gyms are supposed to take maximum precautions for sanitization, there could be instances between you and someone else using the equipment when some areas remain unsanitized.
NOTE: As the outbreak situation worsens, you should make sure to follow strict social distance guidelines and stay at home as much as possible. Only go out if necessary and follow the guidelines issued by your local authorities.
