There technically is no Taiwan flag. The official flag flown in Taiwan and used abroad, when allowed, is the Republic of China flag. Like the American flag, it is red, white and blue. However instead of stars and stripes, it has a white sun in a blue sky over a field of red. The white sun in the blue sky represents the bright future of the great ChungHwa, or Chinese people. The red represents the blood and sacrifice of the revolutionaries.

It is forbidden in the Olympics, and most international sporting competitions. Instead, Taiwanese athletes have to use the Chinese Taipei flag, even when Taiwan is the host country.
