Did the whole retargeting again, this time with rootmotion preserved, the whole thing with floaty feet was actually IK. Ignore the turn in place, I haven't looked in it yet. I actually have I just don't know how to make one of the curves for it. Either way, pretty happy with how little work it takes to get it looking this good and be this responsive. I don't make it pivot intentionally just because I don't have the animations for it. Will look into those things tomorrow.
