In this video, I will show you how to thicken the trunk for young Japanese maple seedlings. It's the first step in creating a Japanese maple bonsai to let the base trunk thicken before styling the tree into a particular shape. Once the base trunk has a desired thickness (thin or thick) as a young tree, you want to start creating secondary branch structure and/or create a new leader to develop a tree with nice movement all the way to the apex.
