What is the pros and cons of Eichler v.s. Ranch? Does Eichler come with a premium? I heard that Eichler has a significantly higher maintenance cost, is that true?

Eichler's are definitely collector items. I grew up in an Eichler in San Francisco's Diamond Heights and LOVED it. If the one you are considering is in original condition, there are some big items to consider. Windows are single pane, original radiant heat may have leaks, not well insulated, roof is flat (foam, bitumen, tar & gravel, etc), mahogany walls. Best resource is www.eichlernetwork.com
