The theory of operation of Puroflux sand media filter is the same as Mother Nature filtering spring water for drinking.
Dirty water (influent) enters the filter vessel through the over-drain assembly and flows evenly through the sand media bed.
The small void between each media granule allows water to pass while trapping debris to the finest level (0.5-micron or finer), regardless of particle weight.
Puroflux sand media provides for depth filtration throughout the media bed. This benefit extends the filtration cycle while decreasing backwash requirements. Some manufacturers provide surface filtration to obtain low micron filtration, but will find the filters will backwash more frequently leading to increased water usage.
The clean fluid (effluent) then exits the filter back to your system via the underdrain and outlet.
Puroflux sand media filters can be applied in many applications. Most commonly for HVAC / cooling tower applications; Puroflux sand media filters can be installed slip stream to the main loop piping or with cooling tower basin / remote sump sweeper piping.
