THE TRUTH - Spiritual Significance of Temples - മലയാളം | Brahmakumaris | Rajayoga Meditation
Welcome to “The Truth” Series - [ Ссылка ]
A look into the spiritual secrets of temple worship which is an outstanding feature in our culture.. Much as devotees regard the temple as essential for worship of god there is also an equal number who brand it as blind faith. Both attitudes can impede the spiritual aspirant.
Much has been contributed by our seers and savants to show the right practices to be applied in life by a spiritual aspirant, the basic truth of revelation by god himself for the benefit of mankind. The knowledge in the Vedas and the Upanishads were not transparent to all and their substance was transferred to puranas, itihasas and e mahakavyas and stories as a popular method of communinicating that knowledge. For a spiritual aspirant in his 'infancy' it was far easier to understand the epic characters and the values they stood for. Hanuman is a by-word for humility and Lakshman is a symbol for fraternal love and sacrifice. But do we apply their values in life? Certainly we do not. We relish the high points of the epics and stop after a momentary reflection on those exemplary characters. We sing them in devotional songs. But follow them, we do not.
What is the first act that one does while in the temple.? One goes to the main niche, to the kshetra murthi, paying little attention to other sights. From this we should infer that we should pay attention to the soul within, not the external body. The fact however is that we devote a lot of time for the upkeep (and more)of the body alone. We have ignored the soul, which is like a dislodged broken idol.
Secondly we know that if any desacration happens inside the temple such as defaecation much money is spent in cleansing. Now let us compare-our body and mind are both littered and polluted.. Do we bother to sweep out the dirt and keep them clean?
To the presiding deity of a temple we offer only that which is clean, pure and fragrant- fresh rice, sugar, flowers, sandal et cetera. But what do we give ouselves, particularly today? More and more people prefer to eat dead flesh that can serve neither body nor mind and inhale poisonous smoke intentionally and otherwise. Why have we segregated ourselves from the good things that we submit before the deity? So we are ignoring the lesson that the temple is demonstrating before us.
The third point to be considered is the three types of events that take place in temples, on daily basis, special occasions and annual grand events such as the daily puja, special pujas and renewal utsavas like kumbha abhiseka. Our daily ritual begins with a cigarette and a cup of tea and the newspaper and tv and day ends similarly. The deity wakes up to sweet chanting and offering of flowers and lamplighting. The temple ritual should turn real in our daily routine as sweet speech clean habit and awreness. The word utsava means progression from bottom to top.of body and mind vis a vis god. But we see excesses of the wrong kind in temples today devoid of any possibility of any inner quest or developing an insight into the practices. There is only blind faith today and mindless imitation there is no enquiry into origins. Right knowledge alone can resuscitate the temples back to the basis of their existence and their relevance for our spiritual life.
