Design in Motion was created by V&A Dundee and The Travelling Gallery to take the work of seven of Scotland’s most exciting contemporary designers and studios around Scotland.
Stopping at more than 70 locations, covering thousands of miles in towns, cities and remote communities across Scotland, the 18-week tour provided audiences with an early taste of V&A Dundee, a stunning £80 million building currently under construction on the Scottish city’s waterfront, ahead of opening in 2018.
More than 10,000 people boarded the custom built gallery in a bus to see the exhibition ahead of its final stop in London. As well as public venues including Glasgow Science Centre and the Scottish Parliament, the tour engaged with future designers in 39 schools and 16 colleges and universities across Scotland.
Visitors to Design in Motion had the opportunity to see works of contemporary design from leading fashion designer Holly Fulton, jeweller Lynne MacLachlan and innovative product designer and artist Geoffrey Mann. Also featured are the groundbreaking digital works of Anarkik3D and Digital Design Studio, interactive lace by textile innovators Sara Robertson and Sarah Taylor and the beautifully immersive ‘Strawberry Thief’ game from Sophia George (former Game Designer in Residence at the V&A).
The tour was a collaboration with the Travelling Gallery, and funded by players of People's Postcode Lottery.
The Design in Motion films, commissioned to accompany the exhibition were produced in association with Rapid Visual Media.
