Marundeeswarar Temple - A 1300 year old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is one of the 276 "Paadal Petra Sthalams" or Thevara Sthalams.

Paadal Petra Sthalams refer to the temples (dedicated to Lord Shiva) that are revered in the Tamil Thevaram verses of the three Saiva Saints (Nayanars) during the period 6th to 8th centuries CE.

All these 'paadal peltra sthalams' temples have been in existence for more than 1000 years, since they have all been referred to in the Thevarams.
