South Africa has deteriorated on an independent ranking of the world's most fragile states, coming in at 96 out of 178 countries.
The Washington-based, NGO Fund for Peace, ranks countries on an annual index by assessing them across social, economic and political indicators, in order to identify potential risks of social and political turmoil or conflict. South Sudan is the most fragile state at number 1, followed by Somalia, the Central African Republic and Yemen.
Finland - at 178 - is the least fragile state followed by Norway and Switzerland.
