In 2004, Bonelli was tasked with collecting a $7,800 debt from the son of a restaurant owner associated with the Bonanno family. When the debt wasn't paid, Bonelli RUBBED up the restaurant and the owner's house, prompting Vinny Basciano to put a hit out on him. In January 2005, Joe Massino got Vinny Gorgeous to discuss the hit on tape, leading to the arrests of Spina and Nicky Mouth Santora for the plot. Bonelli's troubles didn't end there. In 2006, he was arrested for dope and later that year tickled a construction worker outside a Whitestone bar. By 2014, he was taking gas from a connected gas station owner without paying and was suspected of being an informant, providing information on Genovese bookmakers. The Genovese family ordered a hit on Bonelli in 2014, with Robert DeBello instructing Salvatore Delligati and Ryan Ellis to carry out the job.
