How Do I Get A Credit Card With No Credit History I remember when I applied for my first credit card. This was a long time ago now, but I remember feeling a little lost and not really knowing where to start. In fact, I was actually completely against the idea of getting a credit card until my sister briefly explained to me that I needed to start building up my credit because one day I am going to want to get a car, get my own apartment, or purchase my own home and having a credit score is going to be important. She told me that if I have no credit score, then it’s going to be pretty difficult for me to be independent and that no credit is treated the same as bad credit. I thought that credit cards were bad because of the interest rates and thought they were just traps to steal money from you! However, my sister advised me to put one charge on the card per month and pay the balance in full and I would never have a problem. That advice ultimately ended up being……. great…which means I actually listened, shhh don’t tell her I said that…. but the only thing I didn’t know was how to get started. How do I get a credit card with no credit history? Where can you get a credit card with no credit? And who will give you a credit card with no credit? In fact, I didn’t know that not having any credit history would put a limitation on the type of credit cards that I would be able to be approved for and because of this I went about applying for any and every credit card hoping that someone would approve me. In today’s video, I’m going to try to make it easier for you all, so you don’t make the mistake of applying for a credit card that you would not qualify for, which in turn can potentially make it a little more difficult for you to get approved. Make Sure You’re Ready for the Responsibility
This is going to be the most personal point that I share with you, because its reliant upon how honest you are with yourself. Opening a new credit card is a huge step and a very serious one. Before applying for any credit card, make sure that you are ready for the responsibility that comes along with becoming a credit cardholder.


Start off with Researching What’s Required
The next thing you need to do is to research what’s required to open a credit card. I’m going to share two main things with you. One, by law, you are required to be at least 18 years old before you can open up a credit card account. To add on to this, since the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009, opening up an unsecured credit card before you turn 21 is going to be a difficult task. This was done to protect consumers from making a completely naïve decision that could have some real potential financial repercussions that can take decades to correct.


Choosing the Right Card
Its going to be very important for you to choose the right credit card. With no credit history, your options are going to be very limited, and there are companies out there that will prey on you because they know these two things: 1. You’re more than likely naïve to the credit card game, so you don’t know what to expect and you don’t know who or what to avoid; 2. You’ve probably never received a credit card offer in the mail, so they’ll send you offers in the mail (show mailed credit card offers b-roll footage or still image with movement), and once you experience rejection from applying for credit cards that you can’t qualify for from other issuers, you’ll be more likely to go back to the offers received in the mail. Just a note here, I am not saying that all credit card offers in the mail are bad. All credit card issuers use this marketing strategy, so be sure to research them.
