A city centre was 'put on lockdown' following a robbery.
Residents in St Albans in Hertfordshire have reported seeing "police everywhere" following the incident, which was initially reported as a knife attack in the city centre
Police have now confirmed they were called shortly after 10am to reports of a robbery on French Row.
The suspect was armed with a knife and remains on the loose.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Police were called at around 10.11am today (Monday 2 September) following reports of a robbery at a shop on French Row, St Albans. It is reported that a male was in possession of a knife. No injuries have been reported.
"Enquiries are continuing to trace the suspect, and residents may see an increased police presence in the area as armed officers have been deployed.
"Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or report online, quoting ISR 182 of 2 September."
