The Glock 18 is the Austrian gun maker’s full-auto variant of the standard Glock 17. While Glocks are one of the most common firearm brands available, the G18 model is a rarity. The gun maker sells less than 100 per year and only to law enforcement departments.
When switched into high-gear, the machine pistol is capable of firing 1,200 rounds per minute. To put that in perspective, the gun can empty its 33-round magazine in one and a half seconds.
Although there are slight differences in their dimensions, the Glock 18 looks and feels in every way like its semi-auto predecessor. But, given the high-rate-of-fire coupled with the pistol’s lightweight, you’ll need to be careful when you’re putting rounds downrange.
Instructors at Glock’s company range in Smyrna, Georgia, tell users to exaggerate both their grip and stance to manage muzzle rise.
“The gun will tell me whether or not I’m shooting aggressive and if my grip is good. So I’m going to slightly step back a little, I’m going to lean into it, so I’m going to lean really into it and get my weight behind the gun. So I’m pushing on the gun as the gun is pushing against me. It helps the gun to run.”
Per federal law, Glock cannot sell the G18 model in the consumer market. Yet, third-party manufacturers sell conversion kits to modify semi-auto Glocks with full-auto capabilities, but a true Glock machine pistol can be identified with the markings on the front of the slide and a rotating switch on the rear.
