MAX44007 - MAX44009 -- Digital Light SensorsMaxim Company introduced MAX44007 and MAX44009 models. These are digital light sensors equipped with a unique adaptive gain module. The sensors are BiCMOS-based.Two photo detectors and ADC that ensure required functional characteristics are integrated into one small-size package of 2x2x0.6 mm.A high integration provides for small dimensions and high performance. As compared to competitive solutions, MAX44007 and MAX44009 light sensors consume 100 times less power. They substantially increase the battery operation time. Portable devices are often equipped with a color or tinted glass. This causes some light sensor operation problems related to distortions resulting from glass impacts on the light wave propagation and spectrum shift. Error measurements are generally combined with the glass properties.MAX44007 ensures operation to sensors of two types. They include sensors based on infrared photo diodes and those based on infrared and visible light diodes. Originally, developers know tinted glass properties. Therefore, the light sensor measures light flux with a high accuracy and sensitivity (less than 0.025 lux).MAX44007 and MAX44009 light sensors have unique adaptive gain modules that automatically set the optimum gain range. This feature facilitates manual system programming if the sensor has no controlling processor or a micro controller. In addition, the gain module provides a wide dynamic range.MAX44009 can measure illumination intensity from 0.045 lux to 188,000 lux within the dynamic range over 4000000:1. Sensors are easy to install. This innovative feature ensures the maximum measurement accuracy in a wide range.MAX44007 and MAX44009 sensors are designed specifically for devices with limited power consumption.Integral circuits have a low operating current 0.65mkA. This is often smaller than the operation current of competitive solutions in the shutdown mode. Integral circuits are powered from a standard power supply with the voltage ranging from 1.7 to 3.6V. IC power dissipation is 1.1 micro Watts only. This is practically 100 times smaller as compared to competitive solutions (124 micro Watts).Sensors offer one advantage. You can use one 1.8 V power supply to power light sensor and I2C interface. This reduces power dissipation and design complexity as you can use a single supply line for all units. Address inputs allow using one I2C bus for two sensors.MAX44007 and MAX44009 light sensors are designed for ...
