I hope you enjoy this raw and unedited demonstration. I did all the taping using a tri-pod. I think I documented just about every step involved. I will be carving a Hen Mallard in the style of the Lem and Steve Ward. There are 4 one hour Demo's all together. There wont be any narration by me in any of them but I think by watching you will get the idea of the way I accomplish something. I personally would have loved to sit with the Ward brothers and just watched. What you will hear is saws, grinders, air compressors, and the sounds of sanding wood. I will be using basswood for the body and head. The body I will eventually make hollow in Part 2. I hollow the body for a couple of reasons, I like the carving to feel light to the touch, and it also relieves internal pressure making the wood a lot less likely to check, split. If it were made to be an actual decoy, it would float better if it was hollow. The choice is yours. My pattern is as follows, the top view of the body measures 14" long X 6 1/2" wide X 4" high. The head is 2 1/4" thick. The crown width at the widest point measures 1 3/8", and the eye width looking at the eyes head on measures 1 1/4". I use a 9 or 10 mm brown glass eye. I will be using a Sawsall, band saw, Foredom tool, and a Gesswein high speed grinder. I will be using bits that are called Sabur tooth, Kutzalls, and sanding drums. So sit back, have a coffee, try not to fall asleep, (I am guilty of that), and enjoy my carving demonstration. If you have any questions, please post them and If I could answer I will reply to them. Thanks!
