Do Fruit Juices Increase Blood Sugar?
I have been speaking all along about fruits
And how healthy they are,
How good they are
For preventing and reversing diabetes.
But what about fruit juices?
For many of us
The only way we consume fruits on a daily
Basis is by drinking a glass of fruit juice.
Is it really good?
Well, when you look at the nutritional
composition of fruits
The phytonutrients in the fruits
that is the chemicals that help us stay
healthy, to prevent and reverse diseases
like diabetes for example,
Are bound to the fiber.
Because of this, when we strain out fiber
to make fruit juice
There are two things that happen
The fiber gets removed and because of this,
Number one, the phytonutrients are lost
The majority of them go away with the fiber.
Number two, when we drink the fruit juice,
Because of the low fiber,
The sugar in the juice gets absorbed
immediately by the body,
Gets dumped into the blood,
And then there is an overload of sugar
Rushing around in our bloodstream
That causes high blood sugar.
The root cause of diabetes
Is fat accumulation in muscle cells,
as we discussed before, and fruit juices
don’t have anything much to do with this
However, they do result in an
overdose of sugar going into the blood
So, we recommend
Avoiding drinking fruit juice if you are diabetic.
If you are not diabetic,
We also recommend
avoiding drinking fruit juice
So, what do we drink?
We gotta drink something sweet that
tastes like an orange or banana or pineapple
What we recommend instead
Are fruit smoothies.
You can take a fruit and put it in a mixie
after removing the peel
Grind it up into a smooth paste
Put in some more water if you like
That is a smoothie ready for you.
If you want to make it even healthier
Even more delicious
Add in a few nuts and a few vegetables
Like beetroots, carrots, capsicum
if you like to make it a little spicy
The more vegetables you use,
especially green leafy vegetables,
The healthier the smoothie becomes.
You can grind up your fruits to make a juice
As long as you don’t filter them
They are not going to increase
Your blood sugar levels significantly.
We recommend consuming
ground-up fruits as smoothies and not juices
