“Right now, the main things that we will probably be doing in the aftermath of this storm is going to be route clearance, so clearing major roadways for emergency services and civilians to get through as well as possible search and rescue efforts."

STORYLINE:
As Hurricane Beryl, a powerful category 4 storm, approaches Jamaica's south coast, Cayman Islands residents have been bracing for its potential impact, which is expected in the early hours of Thursday.
Hurricane warnings have been issued for Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac.
Beryl is forecast to weaken slightly over the next day or two but still be at or near major hurricane strength.
Residents of Grand Cayman spent a still-sunny Wednesday filling up sandbags and boarding up windows in preparation.
Kayra Hydes, a Cayman Islands resident, said she was "anxious and scared" but trying to keep calm for her son and in case anyone in the community needed help.
Outside the headquarters of the Cayman Island Regiment, red flags announce dangerous weather while signs directed people to shelters, including pet-friendly ones.
Cayman Islands Regiment officer, Tyler Lawson, said 14 shelter had been opened, seven of which Lawson described as "emergency medical centres".
Lawson also said some of the regiment's priorities after the hurricane passes included road clearance and providing emergency services as well as food and shelter for the displaced.
The hurricane is expected to weaken to a tropical storm as it crosses the Yucatan peninsula and reemerges over the weekend at storm strength into the Gulf of Mexico.
Beryl is then expected to hit Mexican territory a second time in the Gulf coast states of Veracruz or Tamaulipas, near the Texas border.
