The government is considering plans to strengthen workers' rights to request a four-day workweek by allowing full-time employees to compress their hours into fewer days, as reported by The Daily Telegraph.
While workers would still need to complete their full hours for full pay, they could ask for a shorter workweek. Since April, employees can already request flexible working from day one, but employers are not obliged to agree.
The government insists it won’t force changes on staff or businesses, though Conservatives warn that businesses are "petrified" by the proposal.
