As of October 2022, BYD’s cumulative global sales of new energy vehicles i.e. plug-in hybrids and full electrics, stood at over 2.9 million units. The car in question, the Atto 3 has sold over four lakh units globally. So while BYD might be new to the PV market in India, it has a solid enough foundation globally to make a strong case for itself. This isn’t BYD’s first car for India, though. That was the e6 electric MPV launched last year, which although is now available to private car buyers, is targeted primarily at fleet operators.
