Armenia’s prime minister visited Moscow and held talks with Russian President Putin on May 8 amid spiralling tensions between the estranged allies. Putin hosted Nikol Pashinyan for talks following a summit of the Eurasian Economic Union, a Moscow-dominated economic alliance. Putin also acknowledged “some issues concerning security in the region” but said bilateral trade with Armenia was growing. The Russian president boasted that trade turnover between Russia and Armenia set a new record in 2023. Meanwhile, Moscow welcomed the meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia scheduled for May 10 in Almaty.
