Vocal polyp as you know is a problem which involves the change of voice. It usually is diagnosed by videolaryngoscopy which is actually an endoscope which is giving you a structure of your vocal cords. Usually done by a trained laryngologist and you get a photographic documentation of the polyp. Most of the time if the polyp is small or a little bigger the laryngologist will tell you to go for speech therapy tell you not to over use your voice or to abuse your voice. Most of the case whenever there is a doubt or the polyp is big, the laryngologist will tell you to go for a small surgery which is called as a microlaryngoscopic surgery to remove the polyp and send it for biopsy. In most of the cases i.e. 90% the polyp is usually benign. But it is always better to be on the safer side to send all the polyp which is being taken out from the vocal cords for a proper histopathological examination. In any case the management usually involves a course of surgery if the polyp is big and a course of speech therapy before and after the surgery. So if you have vocal cord polyp meet a laryngologist as soon as possible.
