Installing 800mm diameter steel casing pipes under railway tracks in Hamilton.
For installing casing (envelope) pipes with no pipe/soil annulus and tunnel roof fully supported at all times.
Developed by Universal Underground incorporating an adjustable pressure balance gate behind the front assembly to maintain bore stability in weak, saturated grounds.
Advantages include-
-Cost saving on traditional methods (hammer/TBM/micro tunnel/auger bore)
-Pilot bore steerable (unlike hammer option)
-Partial obstruction detection with the pilot-bore before committing to the alignment
-No vibration or earth stress
-No pipe/soil annulus
-In trench welding avoidable in most cases (if working space permits)
-No requirement for a concrete floor and rails
-No jacking wall needed
-Men working below ground substantially reduced
-Limited abandoned equipment if major obstruction encountered
