The time on the metaphorical Doomsday Clock remains unchanged after the hottest year on record and tensions escalating in the Middle East with the Israel-Hamas conflict among other threats amplifying concerns of a “global catastrophe”.
In an announcement Tuesday, The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists said it kept the time on the Doomsday Clock at 90 seconds to midnight – the closest it has ever been to the midnight mark.
Bill Nye the Science guy joined the panel, saying the most important thing you can do in the fight against climate change is to vote for political candidates that take the issue seriously: "It all adds up. Vote. We can do this, people."
The Doomsday Clock is a metaphor that visualizes and serves as reminder of “the perils we must address if we are to survive on the planet,” according to the group comprised of experts in nuclear risk, climate change and disruptive technologies.
