Early yesterday evening a car loaded with teenagers tried to pass another vehicle near the crest of a rise on State Route 460 near Appomattox. The teenagers car swung out into the passing lane and collided head-on with another car coming over the rise from the opposite direction. The two virtually exploded from the force of the crash and wreckage and bodies were scattered about the highway. Five persons were Almost instantly killed. Three others died a short while later. Three others suffered serious injuries. The dead include: Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Hensley of Pamplin, Virginia., their daughter, 7-year-old Sheila, and two step-daughters, 13-year-old Kaye White and 16-year-old Patricia White. Killed in the teenagers car were 16-year-old Jane Southall and her 19-year-old sister Cornelia, both from Farmville, and 18-year-old Edward Williams of Pamplin. The crash was the worst in Virginia since September of 1959 when 10 persons were killed in a collision crash on the same highway near Petersburg.
