The Mikoyan MiG-31 NATO reporting name: Foxhound manufactured by Mikoyan is a Russian supersonic interceptor aircraft developed from the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25. The MiG-31 can work efficiently in all weather conditions while fulfilling visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR), day and night. The MiG-31 was the first soviet fighter aircraft to have true look-down and shoot-down capability. The maiden flight of the MiG-31 took place on the 16th of September 1975 and it went into service on the 6th of May 1981. Primary users of the MiG-31 are the Russian Air Force and the Kazakhstan Air Force. There were approx. 519 MiG-31 produced between 1975 and 1994. The MiG-31 is still in service.
